Singapore launches program to help local law firms expand abroad
The Ministry of Law in Singapore, in conjunction with the Law Society of Singapore and the International Enterprise organization have recently launched a brand-new program designed to help expand the skill set, training, education, and knowledge of the legal community in Singapore by sending some of the nation’s best lawyers abroad for global training at top firms around the world.
Conceived of in partnership with all of the organizations highlighted above, at least 35 lawyers are going to be sent out at a time to a number of different global training locations at some of the world’s most prestigious firms. Eight different “mission trips” are scheduled to occur over the next three years, specifically to China, India, and other Asian nations that Singapore conducts a considerable amount of business in.
These trips are revolving around immersing Singapore years and top legal talent in the legal needs, demands, and business opportunities throughout these regions, and are designed to specifically give Singapore firms an opportunity to establish better relationships with top professional organizations throughout these countries to further grow everyone’s economy.
The first trip is scheduled for April 2018, a trip that is designed to head to China, and after that the docket is wide open. Training is scheduled to be a significant portion of these trips, but other components of these initiatives are going to include marketing and branding opportunities, networking events, and general business growth opportunities.
Singapore has been planning initiatives like this for quite a while now, putting together organizations like the ones that we highlighted above to find a way to rapidly expand the working knowledge that Singapore top experts have with partner nations and countries that they want to conduct more business with.
For years now, Singapore has been vying to become one of the most important members of the global community as far as business, commerce, and investment is concerned. So far they have had a tremendous amount of success (outside investment of Singapore firms is up 40% this year alone), and the startup community that has been built in Singapore is already beginning to rival Silicon Valley in the United States – something that most would have considered impossible just a decade ago.
At the end of the day, we are looking at a brand-new Singapore here with initiatives like these.
Singapore has always been a forward thinking nation with long-term plans willing to sacrifice short-term growth. But because of the new influx of modern technology, connectivity, and an atmosphere of collaboration – as well as an opening up of legitimately global markets in a way that wasn’t ever possible for – Singapore is able to capitalize on both short-term success and long-term endeavors at the exact same time.
This is a nation that isn’t going to slow down anytime soon but instead a nation that is pushing to become one of the most important and influential members of the global community in the years to come. Singapore is just getting started and their future has never looked brighter.
